Today, Monday, May 18th, 2026, the workshop “COMPASS: Complexity, Markets, Policy, and AI in Social Systems” successfully took place at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa.

It was an intense and productive day, bringing together international experts and young researchers to explore how Artificial Intelligence is reshaping our understanding of complex social and economic phenomena.

Key Highlights

The event featured three inspiring keynote lectures:

Prof. Guido Germano (UCL) on computational methods for complex systems.
Prof. Prabhani Kuruppumullage Don (Penn State) on advanced statistical models for high-dimensional data.
Dr. Federica Casarosa (SSSA) on the legal and ethical implications of AI.

I had the pleasure of co-organizing the event and participating in the discussion on AI for Complexity and Economic Systems, where we explored the potential of agent-based modeling and network science in forecasting and policy-making.

A big thank you to all the participants, the co-organizers, and the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna for hosting this event. We also gratefully acknowledge the University of Pisa (UniPi) for the grant for high-impact doctoral scientific initiatives that made this workshop possible.

This event represents a significant step in building an interdisciplinary bridge between AI and the social sciences.

On Monday, May 18th, 2026, I will be co-organizing and participating in the workshop “COMPASS: Complexity, Markets, Policy, and AI in Social Systems”, held at Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa.

The workshop aims to explore the transformative role of Artificial Intelligence in understanding and modeling complex social systems, bringing together researchers from different fields to discuss the intersection of complexity, markets, and policy.

I am particularly excited to be part of the Organizing Committee and to speak in Panel 3: AI for Complexity and Economic Systems (16:00 – 17:15), alongside Lorenzo Emer, Giuseppe Squillace, and Anna Gallo.
